Show dates: 16th - 19th October 2019
Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens was first performed as a one act late-night musical at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1995. It played to sold out audiences, gained wide-spread coverage and rave reviews from national press, radio and television and received a coveted Fringe First Award for “innovation in theatre and outstanding new production.”
The show was then developed for its transfer into London’s West End, opening at the Queen’s Theatre on March 25th 1998. On the back of its success on Shaftesbury Avenue, a bespoke nightclub was created to house the show, Saucy Jack’s, appropriately located on Crucifix Lane next to London’s Southbank, and this purpose-built cabaret nightspot became the permanent home for Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens until 2002. It offered a unique evening of cabaret, theatre and dancing for one ticket price and allowed the show to realise its full potential as an interactive live event.
Saucy Jack’s closed its doors in the summer of 2003 and the show went on the road again with a hit production in a circus tent for the Assembly Rooms back in Edinburgh and a run at the Albany Theatre, London in association with the National Theatre. Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens was last seen in the West End in 2006 at the Leicester Square Theatre, choreographed by Dancing With the Stars and Strictly Come Dancing judge, Bruno Tonioli and starring Faye Tozer of Steps fame. It has since been performed to sold out houses all over the world with over 50 productions including Los Angeles, London, Seattle, Wellington, Charleston, Oslo, Anchorage, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Memphis, Brighton - and many others willing to follow...
All is not well at Saucy Jack’s...
The evil shadow of a serial killer looms over the bar; cabaret acts are being killed off one by one, found stabbed by the heel of a sequinned slingback shoe.
We meet and hear the dreams and fears of some of the characters in the bar: down-trodden waitress Booby Shevalle, talented young saxophonist Sammy Sax, willing barman Mitch Maypole and eccentric regular at the bar, Dr. Willhelm von Whackoff.
There is much excitement at the explosive arrival of Chesty Prospects, a plastic smuggling outlaw: there's an eco-war going on in this part of the galaxy and fashionable fabrics like bubble-wrap have been made illegal.
Chesty charms the bar, talks business with Jack and heralds the arrival of The Space Vixens. These super fashion crime fighters from a groovier galaxy are part celebrity, part super-hero: strong, sexy, liberated...and all woman! Their mission is to fight crime and liberate the universe harnessing the Power of Disco.
Immersed in a world of glitterboots and unadulterated funk, will the Slingback Killer will be brought to justice?
